US and Israel Bomb Iranian Police Facilities Exceeding 75 Targets

US-Israeli Strikes Target Internal Security Facilities in Iran

An Al Jazeera investigation has found that at least 75 internal security sites were damaged or destroyed in airstrikes by the US and Israel between February 28 and March 10. The targeted facilities included local police stations, criminal investigation headquarters, public security offices, and checkpoints operated by the Basij paramilitary force.

The strikes occurred primarily in populated areas of southern Tehran, where a police station was previously located before being destroyed in an airstrike on February 28. Satellite imagery confirmed the destruction of at least 11 other facilities in the area.

According to Al Jazeera’s investigation, the spatial distribution of the strikes revealed a deliberate strategy that bypassed isolated military installations and targeted infrastructure used for policing citizens. The capital city of Tehran was hit with 31 strikes, accounting for more than 40% of the total targets.

The investigation found that the strikes systematically targeted the Law Enforcement Command (FARAJA) and the Basij network. FARAJA is a paramilitary force responsible for daily urban law enforcement and riot control, while the Basij is a volunteer force deeply embedded in Iranian neighborhoods.

US President Donald Trump launched the war on February 28, with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu urging Iranians to take to the streets once the bombing stopped. However, military planning for the strikes predated events on the ground that were cited as justification for the war.

Commercial satellite providers Planet Labs and Vantor restricted imagery over the Middle East from March 6, imposing a 14-day delay on images of Iran. This move has made independent verification increasingly difficult.
