US and Israel fail to reach definitive agreement on Iran during meeting

US President Donald Trump met with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu at the White House on Wednesday, concluding that “nothing definitive” was reached during their discussion.

Trump stated that negotiations with Iran will continue, as he pushes for Tehran to concede to a list of demands. The US president emphasized that progress is being made on Gaza, although no specific details were provided.

The meeting took place behind closed doors and was Trump’s sixth time hosting Netanyahu in the US since the start of his second term. Since January 2025, they have met a total of seven times, including once in Israel.

Following the meeting, Trump posted on his Truth Social account that it had been “a tremendous meeting.” He also expressed hope for a deal with Iran and stated that if one can be reached, it would be preferred.

The US president previously sided with Israel during a 12-day war against Iran last June. In response to the conflict, the US launched military strikes on three Iranian nuclear sites as part of Operation Midnight Hammer.

Trump’s comments on Wednesday appeared to threaten further military action against Iran, referencing the previous operation. His post stated that if Iran decides not to make a deal, it may face similar consequences in the future.

Netanyahu’s office released a statement saying that the pair discussed Israel’s “security needs” and agreed to “continued coordination and close ties.” The topics of discussion included negotiations with Iran, Gaza, and regional developments.

The US and Iranian officials held indirect talks in Oman earlier this week, aimed at diverting a military confrontation. Regional powers have pushed for a diplomatic solution to avoid a military clash.
