US and Israel Conduct Military Operations Against Iran
Multiple locations across Iran, including its capital Tehran, have been targeted by the US and Israel in a series of military operations. The attacks were announced by US President Donald Trump on Saturday morning, who described them as “major combat operations”.
According to reports, the strikes occurred amid negotiations between the US and Iran over the latter’s nuclear and ballistic missiles programmes. The US has assembled a large fleet of fighter jets and warships in the region, with Israel participating in the joint military operation.
Multiple cities across Iran have been affected by the attacks, including Tehran, Kermanshah, Qom, Tabriz, Isfahan, Ilam, Karaj, and Lorestan province. The Iranian capital’s University Street and Jomhouri area were reportedly hit, as well as close to the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps headquarters.
Iran has responded by launching missiles at Israel, with multiple explosions reported in the country’s north. The Israeli military has confirmed that sirens have been heard in several parts of the country, and is operating to intercept and strike threats.
Details on casualties and damage are currently limited. A US official stated that a “multiday operation” was planned, while Trump described the aim as destroying Iran’s missiles and raze its missile industry. The Iranian Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei’s whereabouts are not immediately clear.
