US-Backed Palestinian Committee Shares Governance Plan for Gaza Region

A US-Backed Committee Takes Charge of Gaza’s Rebuilding Efforts

The National Committee for Gaza Management (NGAC), a technocratic body tasked with overseeing the future administration of Gaza, has released its mission statement. The committee, established as part of a US-backed ceasefire plan, aims to restore core services and cultivate a society “rooted in peace.” General Commissioner Ali Shaath stated that the NGAC’s goal is to rebuild the Gaza Strip not only in infrastructure but also in spirit.

The NGAC was authorized under United Nations Security Council Resolution 2803 and will operate under the direction of President Donald J. Trump’s “Board of Peace,” which includes pro-Israel figures. The committee’s priorities include establishing security control, restoring basic services destroyed during the war, and cultivating a society rooted in peace, democracy, and justice.

The NGAC faces significant challenges, including widespread skepticism from Palestinians over its autonomy and concerns about the presence of supporters of Israel on the board. Despite these challenges, Shaath emphasized the committee’s commitment to establishing security, restoring essential services, and forging a productive economy capable of replacing unemployment with opportunity for all.

The US-backed ceasefire plan includes a “board of peace” and a “Gaza executive board” to oversee reconstruction efforts. The NGAC will focus on day-to-day rebuilding and stabilization, while the White House will lay the foundation for long-term, self-sustaining governance.
