US Fighter Jets Shot Down Over Kuwait
Three US F-15E Strike Eagles were shot down over Kuwait on Monday, according to a statement from US Central Command (CENTCOM). The incident occurred during the ongoing joint operation with the Israeli military against Iran.
Videos emerged showing one of the fighter jets spinning and spiralling downwards with its tail on fire and smoke trailing behind it. Two pilots were seen ejecting from the aircraft before being safely recovered by local authorities. All six aircrew members have been taken to hospital and are in stable condition, according to CENTCOM.
Kuwaiti authorities have acknowledged the incident and are investigating the cause of the shooting down. The Kuwaiti Ministry of Defence confirmed that several US aircraft had crashed and is coordinating with US forces to investigate further.
Meanwhile, Iran has continued its attacks on civilian and commercial areas across Gulf cities, affecting regional aviation and economic hubs. Tehran stated that it would target US military assets in the region following the ongoing strikes against Iran.
US General Dan Caine, chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, said that achieving military objectives will take time and may involve difficult work. The US continues to send additional troops to the Middle East despite a massive military build-up.
A fourth US service member died on Monday due to injuries sustained in the operation against Iran. US Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth stated that military operations against Iran would not lead to an “endless war”, but acknowledged that the operation would not be completed overnight. The aim is to destroy Tehran’s missiles, navy, and other security infrastructure.
The incident has sparked a response from Kuwaiti authorities, with drones reportedly approaching the capital city. Air defences intercepted most of the drones near the Rumaithiya and Salwa neighbourhoods, according to the state-run Kuwait News Agency.
