US-Iran Talks to Begin in Islamabad on Friday

Iran Agrees to Two-Week Ceasefire with US, Talks to Begin in Islamabad

Iran and the United States have agreed on a two-week ceasefire, with negotiations set to begin in Islamabad, Pakistan, on Friday. The agreement is contingent on Iran’s compliance with certain conditions, including the “complete, immediate and safe opening” of the Strait of Hormuz.

The US President has stated that he is calling off a threat to end Iranian civilization and suspend attacks on the country for two weeks. This truce is based on Iran’s 10-point proposal, which outlines its demands for control over the Strait of Hormuz and the lifting of all sanctions.

Iran’s National Security Council has confirmed that Tehran will halt its defensive operations if attacks against it are suspended. The council also stated that safe passage through the Strait of Hormuz will be possible in coordination with Iran’s Armed Forces.

Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has announced an immediate ceasefire, effective immediately, and invited US and Iranian delegations to Islamabad for further negotiations. Iran’s 10-point proposal calls for Iranian dominance and oversight of the Strait of Hormuz, as well as the withdrawal of US combat forces from bases in the Middle East.

The proposal also demands full compensation for war damages, the lifting of all sanctions, and the release of frozen Iranian assets abroad. The UN Security Council has stated that Iran will allocate two weeks for negotiations, which can be extended by agreement of the parties.
