US-Iran tensions escalate as diaspora groups stage global rallies

US and Iranian Officials Present Clashing Views Ahead of Talks

Tehran, Iran – The United States and Iran are set to engage in talks, with differing views on key issues. Diaspora Iranians worldwide have organized rallies to demand action following the recent nationwide protests.

Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian attended a conference in Tehran, where he thanked leaders from Azerbaijan, Turkey, Qatar, Oman, Saudi Arabia, and others for their efforts to prevent a US military attack. He stated that these countries are working towards resolving Iran’s issues through peaceful means.

US President Donald Trump announced plans to deploy a second aircraft carrier to the Middle East, stating that “regime change” in Iran would be beneficial. The Iranian government has consistently rejected both of the US demands: limiting its missile program and ending nuclear enrichment.

Iran has proposed exchanging dilution of highly enriched uranium for the lifting of sanctions. The US has maintained its stance on these issues. Reza Pahlavi, son of Iran’s former shah, called on Iranians abroad to participate in a “global day of action” aimed at addressing the current situation.

Rallies were held in cities worldwide, including Munich, Los Angeles, Toronto, Sydney, and Melbourne. The events drew large crowds, with over 150,000 people attending a similar rally last month in Toronto. Iranian diaspora members have expressed their desire for change, citing concerns about the country’s governance and human rights.

The United Nations and international human rights organizations documented widespread use of lethal force by state forces against peaceful protesters. The Iranian government has denied these allegations, attributing the violence to “terrorists” and “rioters” allegedly funded by the US and Israel.

Families in Iran have released footage online commemorating loved ones who were killed during the protests. These events are part of a global response to the recent unrest in Iran.
