A US judge has dismissed a defamation lawsuit filed by former President Donald Trump against The Wall Street Journal.
The lawsuit, which was filed in 2021, alleged that the newspaper had defamed Trump over an article published in August 2020 about his relationship with late financier Jeffrey Epstein.
Trump’s lawyers claimed that the article contained false statements about his involvement with Epstein and that it damaged his reputation. However, a judge has now ruled that the lawsuit lacks merit.
The Wall Street Journal reported on the allegations made by Virginia Giuffre, one of Epstein’s victims, who claimed that Trump had sex with her when she was 17 years old.
Trump denied the allegations, but the newspaper maintained that it stood by its reporting.
In a statement, The Wall Street Journal said: “We are pleased that the court has dismissed this lawsuit.”
The judge’s decision means that Trump will not be able to pursue his defamation claim against the newspaper or its parent company, News Corp, which is owned by media mogul Rupert Murdoch.
This ruling is the latest in a series of legal challenges faced by Trump since leaving office.
