US Military Build-Up Off Iran Compared to June 2025 Strikes Analysis

US Deploys Major Naval and Air Force Assets Off Iran’s Coast

The United States has intensified its military presence off the coast of Iran, with several major naval and air force assets being deployed to the region. The USS Abraham Lincoln, a nuclear-powered aircraft carrier, is among the vessels that have been sent to the Arabian Sea in recent days.

According to US Central Command (CENTCOM), the ship departed its homeport in San Diego, California in November and had been operating in the South China Sea until last week. CENTCOM confirmed that the vessel has been deployed to “promote regional security and stability” in the Middle East.

Additionally, the US Air Forces Central Command (AFCENT) announced “multi-day readiness” military drills throughout its areas of responsibility, which include 20 nations in the Middle East, Asia, and Africa. The drills are aimed at improving the capacity to deploy assets and personnel, strengthening partnerships with host countries, and preparing for flexible responses.

The deployment of US military assets to the region has raised concerns about potential strikes on Iran. In recent days, thousands of protesters took to the streets in Iran, demanding government change and an end to economic hardship. Iranian security forces responded with force, resulting in the deaths of at least 5,000 protesters, according to the UN special rapporteur.

US President Donald Trump has been vocal about his concerns regarding Iran’s actions, stating that military action could be taken if executions of prisoners are carried out. The US and Iran have a complex history of tensions, with the US having previously launched strikes on Iranian nuclear sites in June last year.

The deployment of US military assets to the region is part of the country’s ongoing efforts to deter Iran-backed groups and maintain regional security.
