US President Announces Talks with Pakistan Amid Tensions with Iran
US President Donald Trump has announced that US negotiators will travel to Islamabad, Pakistan’s capital, for talks aimed at resolving the conflict between the US and Iran. The announcement was made on social media by Trump on Sunday.
According to Trump, the talks are scheduled to take place on Monday and will involve US officials meeting with Iranian negotiators in Islamabad. Last weekend’s talks, led by Vice President JD Vance, ended without a deal.
Trump has accused Iran of violating a two-week ceasefire that is set to expire on Wednesday. The US president claims that Iran opened fire on Saturday in the Strait of Hormuz, which he says is a breach of the ceasefire agreement.
The US president stated that if Iran does not accept the terms of the proposed deal, the US will take “severe repercussions”, including destroying civilian infrastructure in Iran. Trump’s statement was made on his Truth Social platform.
Iran’s foreign ministry has responded to Trump’s claim, stating that the US naval blockade on Iranian ports is a violation of the ceasefire and an “unlawful and criminal” act. The ministry also accused the US of deliberately inflicting collective punishment on the Iranian population, which amounts to war crimes and crimes against humanity.
