US Politicians Express Caution and Relief Over Trumps Iran Ceasefire

US Politicians React to Ceasefire with Iran

A two-week ceasefire agreement has been announced between the US and Iran, with President Donald Trump declaring a “whole civilization will die tonight” before announcing the truce just hours later. The agreement includes Iran reopening the Strait of Hormuz, which was closed by Iranian forces during the conflict.

Senator Lindsey Graham, a Republican ally of Trump, expressed cautious optimism about the ceasefire, stating that he preferred diplomacy and appreciated the efforts to find a solution. However, he emphasized that lawmakers would review any deal with Iran, citing concerns over past hostile actions by the country.

In contrast, Democrats have welcomed the truce, with Senator Ruben Gallego praising the relief it brings for US troops. “Stopping war is good,” Gallego wrote on X. “I am glad our men and women in uniform will be out of danger.”

Some Republican allies, including Laura Loomer and Mark Levin, expressed skepticism about the ceasefire, arguing that it was not a lasting solution and that Iran’s demands were too high.

The conflict began on February 28 without congressional authorization, with US and Israeli strikes killing Iranian Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. Iran responded with drone and missile attacks against Israel and the region, causing widespread destruction and economic losses.

The ceasefire agreement includes a 10-point plan proposed by Iran, which includes sanctions relief for the country and allows it to retain control over the Strait of Hormuz. The proposal also includes US acceptance of Iranian domestic uranium enrichment, according to reports.

Lawmakers will review any deal with Iran, with Graham stating that “the Strait of Hormuz was attacked by Iran after the start of the war, destroying freedom of navigation.”
