US President Donald Trump has made comments about the ongoing military operations against Iran, stating that his administration’s actions were successful in knocking out the country’s air force and navy. During a news conference at the White House on Tuesday, Trump said that “we’re doing very well” and that Iran now lacks a functioning navy and air force.
Trump attributed the decision to launch the attack to his own intuition, stating that he had a feeling that Iran would strike first in response to stalled negotiations over its nuclear program. When asked if Israel may have played a role in prompting the US to take action, Trump replied that he might have forced Israel’s hand.
US Secretary of State Marco Rubio had previously stated that the US attacked Iran because it knew Israel was about to bomb the country and believed that Iran would retaliate against US facilities in the region. However, Trump has not provided any evidence to support this claim.
German Chancellor Friedrich Merz expressed support for the US-Israeli operation, but emphasized the need for it to end soon due to its negative impact on global economies. He noted that Germany had allowed US forces access to certain bases and drew a contrast between his country’s cooperation with the US and that of other European nations.
Merz also stated that he shares Trump’s goal of removing Iran’s current regime, but acknowledged that the operation was politically sensitive for him due to potential backlash at home. He plans to discuss this matter further with Trump once the military operation concludes.
