US President Donald Trump Posts on Social Media Regarding Iran Conflict
In a recent social media post, US President Donald Trump stated that the United States does not require the assistance of the United Kingdom in deploying aircraft carriers to the Middle East. The post was made following a statement from the UK’s Ministry of Defence, which announced that one of its two flagship aircraft carriers, HMS Prince of Wales, had been placed on “high readiness”.
The US President wrote, “The United Kingdom, our once Great Ally, maybe the Greatest of them all, is finally giving serious thought to sending two aircraft carriers to the Middle East. That’s OK, Prime Minister Starmer, we don’t need them any longer — But we will remember.”
This statement comes amid ongoing tensions between the US and Iran, with the conflict escalating since February 28. The war has resulted in significant loss of life, including an estimated 1,332 people killed in Iran, as well as six US service members confirmed dead.
The UK government has increased its involvement in the conflict, allowing the US to use its military bases for “limited defensive purposes”. The bases include RAF Fairford in Gloucestershire and the Diego Garcia site in the Chagos Islands. Initially, there were reports that Prime Minister Keir Starmer had blocked the US use of these bases.
The UK government has also issued a joint statement with France and Germany, outlining their intentions to defend their interests and those of their allies in the region through “necessary and proportionate defensive action”. The statement was made in response to the initial US-Israeli strike on Iran.
Protests have been held outside the US Embassy in London, with thousands of people calling for an end to the conflict. The UK government has faced criticism from both domestic supporters and detractors regarding its involvement in the war.
