US President Trump rejects UKs offer of aircraft carriers in potential Iran conflict

US President Donald Trump Posts on Social Media About Iran War

US President Donald Trump has posted on social media that the United States does not need the United Kingdom to deploy aircraft carriers to the Middle East amid the ongoing war with Iran. The post was made on Truth Social, following a statement from the UK’s Ministry of Defence that one of its two flagship aircraft carriers, the HMS Prince of Wales, has been placed on “high readiness”.

The US President stated that the UK is finally giving serious thought to sending two aircraft carriers to the Middle East, but added that the US does not need them anymore. He also mentioned that the UK’s Prime Minister Keir Starmer is not dealing with Winston Churchill, implying a contrast between Trump’s perception of Starmer and his previous admiration for Churchill.

The conflict in Iran has sparked fears across the region, resulting in an estimated 1,332 reported deaths, including six US service members. The UK government has increased its involvement in the war on Iran, allowing the US to use its military bases for “limited defensive purposes”. The bases include RAF Fairford and the Diego Garcia site.

The conflict has been widely considered illegal under international law, and the war remains largely unpopular in the UK. A recent survey conducted by Survation found that 43% of British adults believe the war is not justifiable. Thousands of protesters gathered outside the US Embassy in London on Saturday to call for an end to the conflict.

The situation between the US and the UK has been strained since Trump returned to office last year, with tensions deepening over the past week. The US and Israel have continued to launch strikes against Iran as part of the ongoing war, which began on February 28.
