US President Trump warns Iran of potential severe consequences

US President Donald Trump has reiterated his threat to take military action against Iran if the country does not meet his demands on various issues. In a recent interview with Channel 12, Trump stated that “either we reach a deal or we’ll have to do something very tough.” This statement comes as Iranian security chief Ali Larijani meets with Omani Sultan Haitham bin Tariq Al Said to discuss talks between US and Iranian officials.

Trump has increased the number of US military personnel in the region, including deploying an aircraft carrier, the USS Abraham Lincoln. Reports suggest that a second aircraft carrier may also be sent to the Middle East. This deployment has sparked concerns about the potential for a US strike against Iran.

The US has issued guidelines to commercial ships operating in Iranian waters, warning them to stay as far away as possible from the country’s territorial waters. Trump has previously stated that his military is “locked and loaded and ready to go” and compared Iran’s situation to that of Venezuela, where a US military operation resulted in the abduction and removal of deposed President Nicolas Maduro.

Trump’s administration has issued three demands to Iran, including an end to uranium enrichment, severing ties with regional proxies, and limits on ballistic missile stockpiles. The US pulled out of the 2015 nuclear deal with Iran in 2018, and Trump has since resumed his “maximum pressure” campaign against the country.

The Iranian government has denied that its nuclear program is for civilian energy purposes only, claiming it is used for peaceful purposes. The recent wave of anti-government protests in Iran was met with a violent crackdown by state security forces, resulting in widespread condemnation from human rights groups.
