Democratic Republic of Congo National Football Team to Isolate Before World Cup Appearance
The Democratic Republic of Congo’s national football team will be required to isolate for 21 days before entering the United States for their upcoming World Cup appearance. According to Andrew Giuliani, executive director of the White House Task Force for the World Cup, the team must maintain a bubble while training in Belgium.
Giuliani confirmed that the Congolese delegation will not be allowed to enter the US until they have completed this isolation period. The team is scheduled to play their first game against Portugal on June 17 in Houston, followed by matches against Colombia and Uzbekistan.
The US task force has taken a cautious approach to health and safety issues surrounding the World Cup. Giuliani stated that the organization is taking all necessary precautions to prevent any potential risks from entering the country.
The team’s isolation period comes after an Ebola outbreak was confirmed in the Democratic Republic of Congo earlier this month. The outbreak, which is a rare form of Bundibugyo Ebola, has resulted in over 130 deaths among nearly 600 suspected cases. As a result, the team relocated their training camp from Kinshasa to Belgium.
The team will also participate in friendly matches against Denmark and Chile before their World Cup appearance.
