US Secretary of State Vance urges calm before Iran talks begin

US Secretary of State Antony Blinken’s counterpart, US Special Envoy for Iran, Robert Malley, and other officials departed for Tehran on Monday to engage in talks aimed at ending the war between the two nations.

During his departure, US Secretary of State Antony Blinken warned Iran not to “play” the United States during these negotiations. The warning was made as part of a broader effort to de-escalate tensions between the two countries.

According to reports, Iranian officials had expressed interest in engaging in talks with the US delegation.

The talks are focused on finding a permanent resolution to the conflict and securing the safe passage of ships through the Strait of Hormuz, which has been closed since 2021 due to concerns over Iran’s military activities in the region.
