US Womens Ice Hockey Team Declines Invitation to Attend Trumps State of Union

US Women’s Ice Hockey Team Declines Invitation to State of the Union Address

The US women’s ice hockey team, which won gold at the recent Olympics, has declined an invitation to attend President Donald Trump’s State of the Union address in the capital.

According to a statement released by the team on Monday, the athletes are unable to participate due to previously scheduled academic and professional commitments following the Games. The statement expressed gratitude for the invitation extended to the team and acknowledged the recognition of their achievement.

The US men’s ice hockey team was invited to the address after winning Olympic gold on Sunday. In a video shared online, President Trump can be heard inviting the men’s team and joking that he would likely face impeachment if they did not attend with the women’s team. The players’ response was audible, with them cheering and saying “We’re in.”

It is unclear whether the men’s team has formally accepted the invitation. The AFP news agency has contacted the team for comment.

The State of the Union address is an annual event where the president addresses Congress on the state of the nation. Traditionally, both Republicans and Democrats bring guests to watch the address.
