USMCA Trade Pact Negotiations Extended by Mexico and Canada

Canada and Mexico Propose Extension of USMCA Trade Pact

Negotiations between Canada, Mexico, and the United States are ongoing regarding the future of the USMCA (United States-Mexico-Canada Agreement) trade pact. As part of these discussions, both countries have expressed support for extending the agreement by an additional 16 years.

The proposal comes as tensions remain high in the ongoing trade dispute between the three nations. The USMCA was first implemented in 2020 and is set to expire on December 31, 2023.

Canada and Mexico have submitted a joint proposal to extend the pact, which would see it remain in effect until 2039. The exact terms of the proposed extension are still being negotiated.

The United States has not yet commented on the proposal, but officials from all three countries will continue to engage in talks aimed at reaching a mutually acceptable agreement. Any changes to the USMCA would require the consent of all parties involved.

As negotiations progress, it is unclear what specific provisions or amendments may be included in any potential extension of the pact. The outcome of these discussions will have significant implications for trade between Canada, Mexico, and the United States.
