Venezuela’s Opposition Leader Expresses Gratitude to Trump for Maduro’s Abduction
In a recent interview with Fox News’ Sean Hannity, Maria Corina Machado, Venezuela’s opposition leader, expressed her gratitude to US President Donald Trump for the abduction of Venezuelan leader Nicolas Maduro. Machado stated that she has not spoken to Trump since October last year and plans to “personally” thank him for the event.
Machado also praised Trump’s administration for its military actions in Venezuela, calling them “courageous vision” and “historical actions.” She attributed these actions to bringing Maduro to justice. Machado had previously declared victory in the Venezuelan opposition’s presidential primary but was barred from running due to a travel ban.
The White House has indicated that it is not seeking regime change in Venezuela but rather a docile government that will allow US companies to exploit the country’s vast oil reserves. Machado welcomed this idea, stating that Venezuela would transform into an “energy hub” for the US.
International experts have expressed concerns about Trump’s actions in Venezuela, citing international law and the potential risks of normalizing similar actions by other powers. The abduction of Maduro has been described as an attack on both international law and Venezuelan politics.
Machado’s comments have sparked controversy, with some questioning her motives and others praising her for her support of Trump’s administration. Machado plans to return to Venezuela “as soon as possible” after leaving Oslo in December.
