Venezuelas Future Shaped by Machados Pro-American Vision

Venezuelan Opposition Leader Holds First Formal News Conference Since Departure

Maria Corina Machado, a Venezuelan opposition leader, held a news conference on Friday, where she expressed her support for the US and outlined her vision for Venezuela’s future. The event took place at the Heritage Foundation, a conservative think tank.

Machado stated that the interim government of Delcy Rodriguez would carry out “dirty work” during a complex democratic transition. She also emphasized the importance of a stable transition, which she believes will result in a proud and strong Venezuela aligned with US interests.

The news conference came after Machado met with US President Donald Trump at the White House on Thursday. The meeting was brief and closed-door, but it marked a significant development in their relationship.

Trump has had a tense relationship with Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro, who assumed the presidency in 2013 as Chavez’s successor. Maduro faced criticism for human rights abuses, including torture and imprisonment of political dissidents. Trump’s campaign against Maduro’s government intensified after he launched a military attack on Caracas on January 3, resulting in Maduro’s abduction.

Machado expressed gratitude to Trump for his actions, stating that Venezuelans are “absolutely grateful” for his efforts. She also reiterated her support for the US and its administration, saying they have shown courage in taking action on behalf of Venezuela.

The Trump administration has recognized the interim government of President Delcy Rodriguez, citing the need for stability in Venezuela. Machado stated that she believes she has a mandate from the Venezuelan people to lead the government, but softened her rhetoric, appearing to accept Trump’s backing of the interim government.

Machado also met with US officials on Thursday, where she discussed her vision for Venezuela’s future and her plans for the country’s transition. The details of their meeting were not disclosed.
