Daniel Dubois Wins WBO Heavyweight Title with Stoppage of Fabio Wardley
In a highly anticipated all-British heavyweight clash, Daniel Dubois defeated Fabio Wardley to win the WBO heavyweight title. The fight took place at the Co-Op Live Arena in Manchester, United Kingdom.
The bout began with both fighters exchanging blows, resulting in Dubois being knocked down twice during the first round. Despite being on the canvas, he managed to rise and continue fighting. In the 11th round, Wardley was visibly weakened, with heavy bleeding from his nose and a severely swollen right eye.
Referee Howard Foster intervened at the start of the 11th round, stopping the fight due to Wardley’s inability to continue safely. Dubois’ corner had inspected his facial wounds in rounds eight and ten, but he continued to land significant blows on Wardley throughout the fight.
Post-fight comments from both fighters were positive, with Dubois expressing gratitude towards Wardley for providing a challenging opponent. The win marked Dubois’ 23rd professional victory in 26 fights, while Wardley now holds a record of 20-1-1.
Veteran promoter Frank Warren praised the fight as one of the best heavyweight bouts he had ever organized, confirming that there was a rematch clause included in the contract. However, some viewers expressed concern about the fight’s duration and potential for earlier intervention.
