The West Indies have secured a spot in the Super Eights phase of the T20 World Cup after defeating Nepal by nine wickets at Mumbai’s Wankhede Stadium on Sunday. The match saw Nepal post a total of 133-8 in their 20 overs, while the West Indies responded with 134-1 in 15.2 overs.
Captain Shai Hope led his team to victory, scoring 61 not out and reaching his half-century off 44 balls. He shared an unbroken partnership of 91 with Shimron Hetmyer, who was 46 not out at the end from 32 balls. The West Indies’ bowlers also performed well, with Matthew Forde taking 1-10 from his four overs.
Nepal’s innings got off to a slow start, losing three wickets in the first six overs. However, Dipendra Singh Airee’s 58 helped the team reach 100, alongside Sompal Kami who contributed 26 not out. Jason Holder took 4-27 from his four overs and also removed Nepal captain Rohit Paudel for five.
The West Indies’ victory eliminates Nepal from further competition in this year’s T20 World Cup. The result marks a significant milestone for the team, as they become the first to qualify for the Super Eights phase of the tournament.
