Winter Storm Brings Fatalities, Power Outages, and Flight Cancellations Across US

US Winter Storm Brings Widespread Disruptions

A powerful winter storm has brought significant disruptions across the northeastern United States, with heavy snow and freezing temperatures causing widespread transportation issues and power outages. According to FlightAware, 3,800 flights were cancelled on Monday, in addition to an additional 1,000 delayed flights.

The storm has left over 819,000 households and businesses without electricity across the US, primarily concentrated in the South. In Louisiana, two people have died from hypothermia due to the icy weather, while Tennessee saw power lines brought down by the cold temperatures.

More than 10 deaths have been reported as a result of the storm, with five fatalities found outside in New York City over the weekend. The city’s mayor has confirmed that these individuals were deceased prior to the storm’s impact.

Residents are advised to stay indoors if possible due to hazardous road conditions and warnings from local authorities. The Federal Emergency Management Agency has also issued alerts for residents to take necessary precautions.

The National Weather Service has forecasted temperatures to remain below freezing throughout the week, with any remaining snowfall expected to be light and conclude by Monday morning or early afternoon.
