Youngest Male Grand Slam Match-Winner Emerges After 17 Years

Moise Kouame Wins French Open Match at 17 Years Old

In a major upset, Moise Kouame defeated Marin Cilic in the first round of the French Open on Tuesday, becoming the youngest player to win a Grand Slam match since Bernard Tomic’s appearance in the 2009 Australian Open. Kouame, 17 years and two months old, secured the victory in straight sets, winning 7-6(4) 6-2 6-1.

Kouame was handed a wildcard entry by tournament organizers and faced off against Cilic, a former US Open champion and Roland Garros semifinalist. The match saw Kouame outplay Cilic, using his speed in defense and deft drop shots to draw applause from the crowd.

The young Frenchman edged a tense opening set in a tiebreak after saving two set points before taking control of the match. Kouame did not concede a break of serve throughout the contest, sealing victory in straight sets.

Kouame’s win marked his second main-tour victory and follows recent wins at the Miami Masters and ITF titles. He will next face Adolfo Daniel Vallejo in the next round after Cameron Norrie retired injured.

In a post-match interview, Kouame expressed his emotions, stating that coming into the tournament he didn’t know what to expect. However, he credited his team’s hard work and experience gained from recent tournaments for his success.
