Spanish Football Federation Imposes Sanctions on Real Zaragoza Players Following On-Field Brawl
The Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) has handed down disciplinary actions to several players involved in a brawl during a La Liga 2 match between Real Zaragoza and Huesca. Esteban Andrada, the goalkeeper for Real Zaragoza, was banned for 13 matches after punching an opposition player following a sending off. Andrada received two yellow cards during the match, which ended in a 1-0 defeat for Zaragoza.
According to reports, Andrada’s actions led to a brawl between players and staff from both teams, with Huesca captain Jorge Pulido being restrained before being escorted from the pitch. The incident occurred after Andrada was sent off following his second yellow card in the 99th minute.
The RFEF’s Disciplinary Committee has ruled that Andrada’s actions warranted the maximum 12-match sanction, as well as an automatic one-game suspension for the sending off. Huesca goalkeeper Dani Jimenez received a four-match suspension after punching Andrada during the melee.
Additionally, Zaragoza teammate Dani Tasende was handed a two-game suspension for kicking an opponent in the leg following a VAR review of the brawl. Rayo Vallecano player Isi Palazon was suspended for seven matches for making harsh complaints about the referee during his team’s 3-3 draw against Real Sociedad.
The suspensions can be appealed, and players have been given the opportunity to contest the decisions made by the RFEF.
