Zimbabwe Secures Victory Over Sri Lanka at T20 World Cup

In a surprise result, Zimbabwe defeated co-hosts Sri Lanka by six wickets to top Group B of the T20 World Cup. The match, held at R Premadasa Stadium in Colombo, saw Zimbabwe’s captain Sikandar Raza score 45 runs from 26 balls, while opener Brian Bennett scored an unbeaten 63.

Sri Lanka, who had posted a total of 178-7, were bowled out by two-wicket hauls from Blessing Muzarabani, Brad Evans, and Graeme Cremer. Zimbabwe’s Bennett combined with Tadiwanashe Marumani for a 69-run opening partnership to set the stage for the chase.

Zimbabwe chased down the target of 179 with three balls to spare, securing their first win in Group B. The result marked Sri Lanka’s first loss in the tournament, as both teams had already qualified for the Super Eight.

The match saw Zimbabwe’s player of the match Raza express excitement about his team’s performance, stating that they were unbeaten so far and in a good position to advance in the tournament.
