Kyrgios' Return to Competition Falls Short at Brisbane
Cameron Norrie edged out Nick Kyrgios 7-6(3), 4-6, 6-2 to advance to the next round of the Brisbane International on Monday. The British player’s victory marked his first win in two matches since returning from a three-month injury layoff. Kyrgios’ Australian Open campaign was cut short due to a knee injury, and he has been working to regain his form ahead of the Brisbane tournament. However, Norrie proved to be too strong for him, taking advantage of Kyrgios’ inconsistent serve and return game. Despite the loss, Kyrgios showed signs of improvement in his match against Norrie, particularly on the forecourt where he was able to generate more power and precision. Nevertheless, it was not enough to overcome the British player’s determination and skill. Norrie will face either Andrey Rublev or Jannik Sinner in the second round, while Kyrgios will have a chance to regroup and refocus ahead of his next tournament.
