Miami Hurricanes' Quarterback Leads Team to National Title Game
In one of the most thrilling finishes in recent college football history, Miami quarterback Carson Beck engineered a game-winning drive that sent his team to the national title game against Alabama. The Rebels had taken an early lead and held it for most of the contest, but Miami’s offense came alive on fourth down with just over two minutes remaining in regulation. Beck, who was known more for his pocket presence and decision-making skills than his arm talent, dropped back and launched a deep pass to wide receiver Mike Harley, who beat the defender for a 50-yard gain. The subsequent drive would prove to be one of the most memorable in Miami’s program history. Over the next four plays, Beck led his team down the field on a series of clever misdirections and precision throws. On first down, he connected with tight end Will Mallarky for a 12-yard gain to set up a second-and-five from the Rebels’ 25-yard line. A draw play to running back Michael McFall followed, gaining another 10 yards as Miami moved into field goal range. Beck then faced a third-and-5 from the Rebels’ 35-yard line and took a moment to survey the defense before launching a deep pass to wide receiver Josh Kimbell, who leapt high in the air to snag the ball at the 15-yard line. With the Miami Hurricanes now just a few yards away from scoring, Beck’s calm demeanor was on full display as he directed his teammates through a final timeout. On first down after the timeout, Beck dropped back once more and unleashed a 20-yard strike to slot receiver Cameron Ford, setting up fourth-and-goal from the Rebels’ 5-yard line. Miami running back Michael McFall took it from there, bursting through the hole for a touchdown that sent the Hurricanes’ bench into a frenzy. Miami’s national title hopes were officially on the table as Beck and his teammates celebrated their hard-fought victory over Ole Miss. The team will now face Alabama in the championship game next week, looking to cap off an incredible postseason run with a national title.
