Sooner Nation Gets Boost as Oklahoma Lands Talented Transfer Lineman
The University of Oklahoma’s football program has made its first major move in the 2024 recruiting cycle by securing a commitment from Georgia State defensive lineman Bishop Thomas via the transfer portal. The talented 6-foot-5, 270-pound defensive end is expected to bring instant impact to the Sooners’ defense, which struggled to find consistency throughout the 2023 season. Thomas, who played for two seasons at Georgia State before deciding to enter the transfer portal, has been a highly touted prospect in his class. He holds over 20 Division I scholarship offers and has already made appearances on several All-Conference teams. “Being able to compete against top-level opponents is what drives me,” Thomas stated during an exclusive interview with SoonerSports.com. “I believe Oklahoma’s program will provide me the best opportunity to do so, and I’m excited about the chance to contribute to a team that’s built for success.” Coach Brent Venables’ staff has been busy in the offseason, making moves to address key areas of need on both sides of the ball. With Thomas now on board, the Sooners will look to build momentum heading into the 2024 season. “I think we’ve got our best shot at getting back to a BCS bowl game,” Venables said during his Monday press conference. “We’re building for the future, and players like Bishop Thomas are going to be key contributors to that.”
