Adobe to Keep Animate Alive Despite Frustrated Creator Community
After sparking widespread outrage from its community of users and creators, Adobe has revised its plans for the popular animation software Adobe Animate. Contrary to initial reports suggesting it would be discontinued on March 1st, the company now confirms that Animate will instead enter maintenance mode, with no further updates or new features being added. Although this news brings a measure of relief to those who rely heavily on the application, it also highlights the limitations that come with it. Users can continue to access and work with existing projects using Animate, but new users will not be able to utilize its full capabilities. Furthermore, ongoing security patches and bug fixes will still be implemented, ensuring the software remains stable. The decision seems to have been influenced by public outcry following Adobe’s initial announcement, as well as the significance of Animate in supporting various creative endeavors. Notably, notable animation artists such as David Firth, behind the animated web series Salad Fingers, continue to use the application for their projects. Despite this reprieve, some critics may still question the long-term implications and sustainability of maintaining an older software like Animate. Nevertheless, Adobe’s revised stance offers a temporary reprieve for its devoted user base, allowing them to continue working on various creative endeavors.
