AI Deepfakes Spotted on YouTube Soon to Be Available to All Users
YouTube is set to roll out its AI deepfake detection tool to all users over 18 years old, allowing them to receive alerts for potential deepfakes of themselves. Utilizing a selfie-style scan of a person’s face, the platform’s likeness detection feature will monitor for lookalikes and notify the user if a match is found, providing an option to request content removal. Following initial testing with creators and high-profile groups such as government officials, politicians, journalists, and financial institutions, the expanded rollout aims to bolster trust in the platform. A spokesperson for YouTube stated that the platform’s removal requests have been met with a “very small” number of instances, indicating that the AI-powered tool is effective in detecting deepfakes. The move is seen as an effort by YouTube to enhance user safety and security on its vast platform.
