AI-Generated Coloring Books Unleash Nostalgia and Mediocrity
Microsoft’s latest updates to its Paint and Notepad apps have introduced AI capabilities that enable users to create digital illustrations and coloring books with ease. While these features may seem impressive, they are somewhat at odds with the simplicity of the underlying applications. The new “Coloring book” feature in Paint allows users to generate blank templates based on a text prompt, complete with customizable colors and shapes. The resulting artwork is often surprisingly bad, but that’s part of its charm. Notably, none of the generated coloring pages feature a cat sitting on a donut – a design staple that has become synonymous with lazy creativity. In fact, one of the examples showcased by Microsoft doesn’t even have a finished face. This begs the question: what was Microsoft thinking when they designed this new AI tool? Regardless, users can now access these mediocre masterpieces in the latest versions of Paint and Notepad, all thanks to the power of artificial intelligence. So go ahead, give it a try – but don’t say we didn’t warn you.
