AI-Generated Content to Be Prohibited from Academic Publications
ArXiv, a prominent platform for preprint academic research, is introducing strict measures to curb the proliferation of AI-generated content in scholarly papers. In an effort to maintain the integrity and credibility of its publications, ArXiv will now enforce a policy that prohibits researchers who submit papers containing “incontrovertible evidence” of AI-generated content from uploading their work for a period of one year. This new policy aims to prevent authors from relying on large language models (LLMs) to generate content without verifying the accuracy and authenticity of the results. The prohibited forms of AI-generated content include hallucinated references, meta-comments left by LLMs, and other indications that the author did not perform thorough checks on the generated material. To further reinforce its commitment to academic integrity, ArXiv will also require all future submissions to be accepted at a reputable peer-reviewed venue. This change is intended to ensure that researchers adhere to rigorous standards of scholarship and that their work receives constructive feedback from qualified experts in the field. By implementing these measures, ArXiv seeks to promote a culture of responsible AI use in academia and maintain the trustworthiness of its publications.
