Alexa Smartphone Project Takes Shape as Amazon Aims for AI-Powered Mobile Device
Amazon is reportedly reviving its smartphone efforts with a new device centered around its Alexa virtual assistant. According to sources, the upcoming phone, dubbed “Transformer,” is currently in development within Amazon’s ZeroOne group, led by J Allard. Although details are scarce, it appears that the phone will prioritize Alexa as a key feature, but not necessarily make it the primary operating system. The project’s team has reportedly explored two distinct design options: a smartphone with modern features and a “dumbphone” with a minimalist approach, inspired by the $700 Light Phone. The latter’s black-and-white display and lacquer finish are said to have influenced Allard’s vision for the Transformer.
