Amazon's Starlink Competitor Leo to Launch in Mid-2026
Amazon CEO Andy Jassy has announced that the company’s space-internet service, previously known as Project Kuiper and now rebranded as Leo, will launch commercially by mid-2026. Unlike SpaceX’s Starlink service, which relies on its own fleet of rockets for satellite deployment, Amazon plans to outsource this task to a variety of launch partners. This includes partnering with SpaceX, until Jeff Bezos’ reusable New Glenn rocket becomes operational. The company has already begun an “enterprise preview” of the Leo service, initially set to begin at the end of 2025.
