Apple Music Introduces Transparency Tags for AI-Generated Content
A new metadata system is being implemented on Apple Music, requiring artists and record labels to voluntarily label songs that were created using artificial intelligence. The system, known as “Transparency Tags,” will categorize AI-generated content into four categories: track, composition, artwork, and music videos. The track tag will be applied when a material portion of the sound recording was generated by AI tools, while the composition tag will cover other AI-generated compositional elements such as song lyrics. The artwork tag will apply to static or moving graphics that were created using AI, but only if they are explicitly mentioned in the label’s submission. The system does not assume AI usage on works that have been labeled without this information, according to Music Business Worldwide.
