Arm Launches First Self-Designed CPU for AI Datacenters
UK-based chipmaker Arm has unveiled its first in-house-designed central processing unit (CPU), the Arm AGI CPU, which will be used by Meta in its AI datacenters later this year. This marks a significant shift for Arm, as it transitions from licensing its chip designs to others, to becoming a hardware manufacturer itself. The new CPU is designed specifically for inference and cloud processing, with applications in AI tools such as autonomous agents that can execute multiple tasks simultaneously. Meta has secured the exclusive partnership to use the Arm AGI CPU, which will be used alongside hardware from other vendors like Nvidia and AMD. As part of this collaboration, Meta will work on multiple generations of datacenter CPUs, further solidifying its position as a leader in AI technology.
