ChatGPT Introduces Age Prediction Feature to Shield Minors from Inappropriate Content
OpenAI has rolled out an advanced age prediction feature in its chatbot platform, ChatGPT, as part of a broader effort to safeguard minors from potentially disturbing or mature content online. The new feature, now being deployed globally with the exception of some European regions where it will be implemented ‘in the coming weeks’, uses sophisticated algorithms to analyze user behavior and account characteristics, including stated age, account age, time of activity, and usage patterns over an extended period. Upon detecting potential underage users, ChatGPT’s advanced AI will apply protective measures designed to restrict access to more mature content, effectively shielding minors from exposure to unwanted information. This development follows a growing trend among popular online platforms, including Instagram, YouTube, TikTok, and Roblox, which have also begun implementing similar age-gating features in an effort to ensure online safety for their younger users.
