Chrome's AI Features Are Secretly Eating Away at Your Storage
Google Chrome has been secretly downloading a massive 4GB weights.bin file into users’ browser directories when certain AI-powered features are enabled, leaving them with little to no available storage space on their computers. This is due to the installation of Google’s Gemini Nano AI model, which powers tools like scam detection, writing assistance, autofill, and suggestion features. The model was designed to run locally on the device rather than in the cloud, but some users are now finding themselves with insufficient storage after Chrome installed this 4GB file in their browser folders.
