Claude Code Down Due to AI Model Outage

Anthropic’s AI models experienced a major outage today, resulting in a 500 error when developers tried to use Claude Code. Elevated error rates on its APIs were also seen across all Claude models. The issue was quickly identified and resolved within around 20 minutes by Anthropic. The outages occurred as the company was already dealing with technical issues, including errors on its AI credits system earlier in the week. Furthermore, a similar issue had been reported on Claude Opus version 4.5 yesterday, causing inconvenience to developers relying on these tools. As one developer noted, “You have to wait for it to come back online before you can use the tool,” highlighting the impact of the outage on daily work.
