Claude Misused by Chinese Firms to Train AIs, Accusations Against DeepSeek and Partners
Anthropic has accused three Chinese AI companies, including DeepSeek, of using its Claude model without permission in an attempt to improve their own products. According to Anthropic, the firms created approximately 24,000 fake accounts and engaged in over 16 million exchanges with Claude, allegedly to distill or train smaller AI models based on the more advanced one. The accusation highlights concerns about the misuse of open-source AI technology by companies seeking to gain an edge in the rapidly evolving field. Anthropic emphasizes that distillation is a legitimate training method but warns that its unauthorized use can be problematic. The incident has sparked renewed scrutiny of the AI landscape and the responsibility of companies like Anthropic to ensure their technologies are not exploited for illicit purposes.
