Donut Lab's Solid-State Battery Passes First Independent Test
Finnish startup Donut Lab has released the results of the first independent test of its production-ready solid-state battery, a major milestone in the company’s quest to bring fast-charging technology to the mass market. The test, conducted by state-owned VTT Technical Research Centre of Finland, evaluated the charging speed and thermal behavior of the battery pack. According to Donut Lab, the results show that its solid-state battery can charge at speeds comparable to or even surpassing those of traditional lithium-ion batteries. Key findings from the test include a peak power density of 1,600 W/g, which is significantly higher than industry standards for lithium-ion batteries. The company also reported that the battery exhibited minimal thermal runaway during charging, a critical safety feature that has been a challenge for solid-state batteries in the past. Donut Lab’s achievement is significant, as it paves the way for the widespread adoption of fast-charging technology in electric vehicles and other applications. With commercial production expected to begin soon, the company is poised to play a major role in shaping the future of battery technology.
