El Paso Flights Grounded Due to Enhanced Security Measures
The Federal Aviation Administration has issued a 10-day closure of the airspace around El Paso International Airport in Texas, effective immediately, in response to a heightened security threat assessment. The decision was made without prior notice, with only a general statement regarding “enhanced security measures” provided on the FAA website. Aircraft operations have been suspended until February 20th, with flights above 18,000 feet and Mexican airspace exempt from the restrictions. Nearby Santa Teresa, New Mexico has also been added to the list of affected areas, which will be closed for a similar duration. This development comes as El Paso International Airport serves as a key hub for major US carriers operating domestic and international flights.
