Google Abandons Settlement with Epic Games, Proceeds with Proposed Android Store Changes
Google has announced that it will be implementing many of its proposed changes to Android’s app store fees without waiting for a settlement with Epic Games. As part of this move, Google plans to lower its app store fees in the US, UK, and European Economic Area to 20 percent or less by June 30th, down from the current 30 percent fee. Furthermore, by the end of the year, Google will launch a “Registered App Stores” program outside of the US, which will allow users to download and install apps directly from official stores. Additionally, starting in 2027, Google will roll out its proposed changes globally, including updates to its rules and guidelines for app developers. These changes aim to provide more flexibility and choice for users, while also ensuring that Android remains a safe and secure platform for all applications.
