Google Ad Tech Monopoly Under Siege as Atlantica, Penske and Vox Media File Antitrust Suits
The Justice Department’s successful antitrust case against Google has triggered a wave of lawsuits from media companies seeking damages for alleged monopoly profits. Vox Media, the parent company of The Verge, is the latest to file suit, alleging that Google’s ad tech practices have stifled competition and denied publishers the opportunity to monetize their content effectively. In its lawsuit, Vox Media claims that without Google’s conduct, it would be able to provide higher quality impressions for advertisers and create more premium journalism. Other media companies, including Atlantica Group, a leading digital media company, and Penske Media Corporation, which owns Autoblog and other automotive websites, have already filed similar lawsuits against Google. These suits seek to recover damages that the companies allegedly lost due to Google’s dominance in the ad tech market. The antitrust case brought by the Justice Department alleges that Google has engaged in a range of deceptive practices to maintain its monopoly on the digital advertising market, including manipulating bid algorithms and favoring its own ad products over those of competitors.
