Google Introduces New Fee Structure for App Developers
Google has made significant changes to its app store policies in an effort to reduce fees for developers. Effective July, Google Play will charge developers 20% for in-app purchases and 10% for subscriptions, depending on the country of origin. However, there are some exceptions to this rule. Google is introducing two new programs: Apps Experience and Games Level Up. These programs will allow developers to save up to 5% more on their app store fees by participating in these categories. One category that has been redacted from public view is the “metaverse browsers” category, which is expected to have a unique fee structure. The exact details of this category are not yet known. Google’s goal with these new programs is to provide developers with more flexibility and cost savings opportunities. By reducing fees and introducing new categories, Google hopes to promote innovation and growth in the app ecosystem.
