Grammarly AI Mishap Exposes Identity of Public Figures Without Consent
Grammarly’s AI-powered “expert review” feature has been found to be using identities without permission from prominent public figures, including recently deceased professors and senior editors. When the company’s writing advice was generated by an AI model inspired by these individuals, it included comments that appeared to come from notable experts such as Nilay Patel, David Pierce, Sean Hollister, and Tom Warren. The feature, which was launched in August, does not provide users with explicit consent for using their identities or likenesses in this way.
