Grasshopper Manufacture Delivers Unapologetically Weird Games
A postmodern surrealist tale of geopolitics and an otaku’s hellbent journey to become the top-ranked assassin are just two of the bizarre projects under Grasshopper Manufacture. Founded by Goichi “Suda51” Suda in 1998, the Japanese video game studio has earned a reputation for blending absurd concepts, complex characters, and pixelated blood into its games. While critical reception has been mixed over the years, Suda remains unapologetic about his work, stating that he doesn’t believe any of Grasshopper’s projects could be considered traditional games. With projects like a high school cheerleader who kills zombies with a chainsaw and pompoms, it’s clear that Grasshopper Manufacture is the master of B-movie inspired gaming.
