Half of Developers Think Gen AI is Bad for Gaming Industry

A recent survey conducted by the Game Developers Conference found that nearly half of respondents believe generative AI has a negative impact on the gaming industry. The survey revealed a significant shift in opinions over time, with 52 percent of respondents viewing gen AI as having a negative effect in 2023, compared to just 7 percent who saw it positively. The percentage of respondents with a negative outlook grew from 18 percent in 2024 to 30 percent in 2025, before reaching its current level. The survey involved over 2,000 participants and offers insight into the growing concerns within the gaming industry regarding the use of generative AI. More than half of game developers now believe that the technology is detrimental to their profession.
